Kenya: Unemployment and underemployment rampant, says World Bank

Kenya’s growing workforce is struggling to find jobs in a country where job growth is not keeping up with population growth.

A UN report warns that between now and 2030, Kenya’s working-age population will grow by nearly 14 million. Without a stronger labour market, the country’s already high youth unemployment rate could get worse. Kenya already has the highest rate of youth unemployment in East Africa.

The government has pledged to create 570,000 new jobs in the formal sector by 2017.
