Kenya: Authorities consider lifting ban on GM cotton and maize by 2018 (Daily Nation)

Kenya is considering lifting a ban on genetically modified crops if the National Biosafety Authority, or NBA, approves an application to license GM cotton.

The NBA received the application from Monsanto Kenya Ltd. last October.

Anne Maina is the National Coordinator of the Kenya Biodiversity Coalition. She says: “GMO foods are being pushed as the panacea to food security. KBioC rejects this and calls for Kenyans to demand that the government of Kenya invests into systems that promote seed and food sovereignty—like organic agriculture, investment in irrigation, and land management systems.”
