CAR: Youth combatants turn to agriculture

Five hundred former combatants have laid down their weapons to take up agriculture. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization, or FAO, supported the youth—from the town of Kanga-Bandoro in Nana-Grébizi prefecture—with agricultural kits and livestock.

Eighty of the young people have taken up market gardening, according to Rosmon Zokoué, communication assistant at FAO.

Gaston Yendémo is the chief of Nana-Grébizi. He says this work will help to re-energize the agricultural sector, which is only possible in the absence of armed groups.
