About two weeks ago, police seized a large quantity of meat unfit for human consumption from an illegal slaughterhouse in Ouagadougou, according to the Agence de l’Information du Burkina.

It is likely that the beef was intended for delivery to markets in the outskirts of Burkina Faso’s capital city.

Adama Maïga is a veterinary agent. He explained, “This meat … is unsafe for consumption because it came from diseased cattle and was not properly inspected [and certified safe].”

There have been several cases of illegal food products in Burkina Faso since the beginning of 2015, involving sodas, cooking oils, and vinegar.
