Burkina Faso: Groups call for justice

Human rights groups and citizens say there should be no amnesty for anyone found responsible for killing and wounding unarmed civilians during and after the recent coup in Burkina Faso.

Recent investigations by international NGO, Amnesty International, indicate that at least six of the latest 14 victims were shot in the back by members of the elite presidential guard after the guard opened fire on peaceful demonstrations in the capital.

Halidou Ouedraogo is president of the civilian election monitoring body. He says: “The [presidential guard] may have been dissolved, but their crime cases have not been resolved.”
