Drip irrigation

Farmers need to find ways of using the little rainwater they receive to grow enough food. Irrigated farming uses various sources of water, including wells, boreholes and nearby streams. Water is transported via pipes or watering cans to irrigate soil and crops. When rain is unreliable or in short supply, small-scale irrigation can help farmers maintain the water supply to their crops.

In this script, we meet two farmers who have started to use drip irrigation. Drip irrigation methods are very simple and cheap to employ, but farmers can easily see the benefits. Broadcasters can adapt this script to their local situation by finding and interviewing farmers and agricultural officers on the new tools, equipment and methods of farming that are useful when water is scarce.
