Zodiak Broadcasting Station targeted in Malawi protests

One of Farm Radio International’s broadcasting partners, Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS), was caught up in protests in Malawi last week.

People across Malawi planned to demonstrate on Wednesday, July 20. Two ZBS vehicles were attacked prior to the demonstrations. Injunctions were taken out to stop the demonstrations, but people still took to the streets and clashed with police. Property was looted and people were injured. Riots continued in three cities on Thursday, July 21.

Colleagues from ZBS told Farm Radio International, “All of us are OK now. We are broadcasting, but three private stations have been closed by the authorities. We just hope things will be better soon.”
