We extend a warm welcome to all of our readers, especially our newest subscribers: Tom Ngare, from Talent Communications Ltd in Kenya, and Hame Kadi, a researcher with INRAN in Niger.

This week, we continue our coverage of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15), which recently concluded in Copenhagen, Denmark. Farm Radio International’s Research and Production Officer, Nelly Bassily, attended the first week of the conference. She brings us a story featuring Kenyinke Sena of the Indigenous Peoples of Africa Co-ordinating Committee, and his perspective on real solutions to climate change. Our second news item highlights the commitment to climate change adaptation funding for developing countries, which some countries made when they signed on to the Copenhagen Accord.

In the Farm Radio Action section, we are pleased to feature the reflections of Fredrick Mariwa, from Farm Radio broadcasting partner Radio Maendeleo in Kenya, who covered COP15 as part of a delegation from the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC). This section also includes notes from three broadcasters, who describe climate change programming at their radio organizations. Additionally, you’ll find resources to prepare your own climate change programs in the Radio Resource Bank and Script of the Week sections.

Please note that this edition of FRW is the last one that will be published in 2009. Due to staff holidays, there will be no FRW on December 28 or January 4. We will resume regular weekly publication again in the new year, beginning on January 11.

We wish a Merry Christmas to all those who will celebrate in the week ahead. And a Happy New Year to all!
    Happy reading,

    -The Farm Radio Weekly Team
