We extend a warm welcome to our newest subscribers: Emilia Eyo from CRBC in Nigeria; Vassiliki Konaté from FENOPACI in Côte D’Ivoire; Stephen Mwaka a farmer from Uganda and Comfort Adedovin from Development Initiative for Research and Community Involvement in Nigeria.

In a follow-up to our story from Malawi last week about fertilizer subsidies for vulnerable households, we hear from a farmer who has increased his yields by intercropping maize with pigeon pea for the last two years.

Our second story tells the tale of farmers in Rwanda who have started a health fund for their cows. They save money as a group so that each can afford medicines if their animals get sick. Fewer animals have died in the short time since the initiative began.

This week we are delighted to announce the winners of our 2010 scriptwriting competition on healthy communities. An international panel of judges chose ten winning scripts from 128 entries. One overall winner was chosen, Alice Bafiala Mutombo, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Many congratulations, Alice!
