In eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, a ceasefire has been observed since 2006. But violence against women, perpetrated by armed bandits, continues. The South Kivu Women’s Media Association is a group of 40 women media professionals who work to bring the voices of rape survivors out from the shadows, to de-stigmatize survivors, and ensure that women know their rights. The Bukavu-based organization creates women-focused programming for South Kivu’s six radio stations.
