To help broadcasters stay up-to-date and informed about COVID-19 and better serve their audiences, Farm Radio International has created Facebook and Telegram chatbots for our broadcasting partners. These share key information on COVID-19 and on how to continue working safely. Broadcasters will also be pushed towards other FRI resources, including Barza Wire stories, scripts, and key messages.

Broadcasters should click “Get started” and then select their language. The chatbot will interact in English, French, or Amharic. From there, broadcasters have three basic options: learn basic information, access radio resources, or fact-check myths. The basic information includes information on how the virus spreads, symptoms, and precautionary measures. The radio resources include tips on working safely and managing your health, as well as links to FRI radio resources. We also share the truth behind several common myths and misconceptions, as well as a link to FRI’s Broadcaster how-to guide on identifying and fighting fake news.

We know that during the COVID-19 pandemic, you and your listeners have many questions and might not be sure where to find answers or what information to trust. Through the chatbot, you will get key messages, as well as links to other great resources.

The chatbot is intended only for broadcasters, but the information it provides can be aired on your radio program to inform your listeners. Getting the facts right will help you produce accurate, informative radio programs.

This resource is undertaken with the financial support of the Government of Canada provided through Global Affairs Canada.
