Audio editing is the process of electronically shortening, deleting, rearranging, or cutting audio into segments.

Effective audio editing can help you serve your listeners by:
• Ensuring that they hear only what is important and necessary to the story.
• Ensuring that they won’t get bored by statements or explanations that go on too long.
• Ensuring that they don’t get distracted by verbal expressions such as “ums” and “ahs.”

It can help you produce better programs by:
• Ensuring that programs begin and end within the time period allotted.
• Cutting out audio that isn’t important, effective, or entertaining, so that the remaining audio is important, effective, and entertaining.
• Arranging segments (clips) in a logical way that tells a story or proves a point.
