Southern African Development Community Media Awards

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Media Awards recognize the media’s role in disseminating information on SADC in order to support regional co-operation and integration. The awards honour outstanding work in photo, print, television, and radio journalism.

Winners will receive $2,500 US and travel to the 39th SADC Summit in Tanzania in August 2019.

Last year’s winners include:

  • Emma Nakapisye from the Republic of Zambia (Photo)
  • Calviniah Kgautlhe from the Republic of Botswana (Print)
  • Abdel Baulacky from the Republic of Mauritius (Television)
  • Onalenna Dube from the Republic of Botswana (Radio)

Entries for the 2019 award must have been published or broadcast by a registered media house or agency between January and December 2018. The stories or photos must address issues or activities that promote regional integration, such as infrastructure, economy, water, culture, sports, or agriculture.

Applications should be in one of the SADC working languages—English, French, or Portuguese. Broadcasts in local languages should include a translation in English, French, or Portuguese.

Broadcast material should be submitted on a CD or USB, and should be accompanied by an electronic transcript in Word format for translation purposes.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 28.
